My projected opening lines before the official opening lines are released
tonite. On tuesday evening each college football season , I come back and
evaluate my projected lines vs. the opening lines (or combined average with
first lines sunday evening) in my EarlyBirds write ups, and see if there are
any discernible discreprencies on these lines vs. the opening/first lines .
College Early Bird plays again went 8-2 this week.
THINGS WE MAY HAVE LEARNED AS OCTOBER ENDS:
1.THE BCS PERIPHERALS ARE AWARE OF THE POINTSPREADS.
Both Utah and Boise State, the 2 undefeated teams not in major conferences, can only hope that their juggernaut styles give the computers some much needed megabytes and the real people who create postseason invitations some mega dollar offers, if anything.
So when the competing powers have a mismatch cupcake coming up in their schedule, it's best to pay attention to the favorite and the type of points they will be favored by, because you know THEY will be fully aware. Upcoming cases can be made with:
Cal (washington Nov 13), Georgia (Kentucky nov 6), OKIE (baylor nov 20), USC (Arizona nov 13), Boise (SJSU nov 13, Nevada nov 27).
2. THE AGGIES AND FRANCHIONE WILL NEVER JOIN OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS'S CLASS IN THE BIG 12 SOUTH.
I'm sick of listening to the honks on Texas radio stations pumping up this program (especially at the end of 2002 when Franchione mutinied over to College Station and they were describing A&m as a top 10 coaching job in the nation. When did the Ags ever finish in the top 5? During the Johnny Jiminy Cricket Crow days of black&white TV?). Memo to pencil-neck Franchione: when you figure out how to beat Baylor, maybe you can THINK about finishing in the top 25, let alone an NCAA crown. YOU LOST TO FRICKIN' BAYLOR! That was BAYLOR. Shouldve lost to Colorado. Your defense went to an ExLax bonfire party sometime after the Iowa State game. Losing to Baylor is like losing to Prairie View.
3. DEFENSES ON POWDER PUFFS DURING THE LATTER MONTHS ARE GREAT GO - AGAINSTS
SMU, SJSU, Kentucky, Idaho, Tulane, Buffalo , Temple are absolutely horrible, as injuries pile up and the no-depth starts to take effect with these sad sacks. Add Hawaii and TCU (tho recent bowl teams), among others, to this short list.
